Household Services
DVA-funded Household Services may assist eligible veterans with household tasks that are difficult, unsafe or unreasonable for them to undertake because of their accepted conditions.
What Are Household Services?
Household Services are practical domestic services that DVA may fund for eligible veterans. The services and level of support approved depend on the veteran's individual circumstances and accepted conditions. AVOSS can assist veterans through the process of establishing appropriate Household Services and, once approved, coordinate and manage the resulting services. DVA determines eligibility and what support is approved.
Examples of Tasks That May Be Covered
The following are examples only. DVA determines what is approved for each individual veteran.
- General household cleaning
- Laundry and ironing
- Lawn mowing and garden maintenance
- Window cleaning
- Gutter cleaning
- Other domestic tasks as approved by DVA
How AVOSS Helps
Establishing Support
AVOSS can assist veterans through the practical process of establishing appropriate DVA-funded Household Services, including supporting information and liaison where required.
Provider Sourcing & Setup
AVOSS can work with a veteran's existing suitable local provider or identify an appropriate provider in their country of residence, and establish the practical service arrangements required for the approved support.
Ongoing Management
AVOSS manages service schedules, provider arrangements, administration and service issues, and can assist with relevant changes where circumstances or approved support requirements change.
No Out-of-Pocket Service Costs
For approved DVA-funded Household Services managed by AVOSS, the veteran does not pay AVOSS or the local service provider for the approved service. AVOSS manages provider payments and invoices DVA directly, removing the need for the veteran to pay for the service and then seek reimbursement.
